Three-quarters of American adults identify as Christian, down 5 percent from 2008, according to a new survey released on Thursday.
The Gallup poll also found that roughly 20 percent of Americans have no formal religion, which is up 5 percent from 2008.
“The general trends in the data over this eight-year period are clear: As the percentage of American identifying with a Christian religion has decreased, the percentage with no formal religious identification has increased,” Gallup editor-in-chief Frank Newport wrote.
